One of the many things on my bucket list this summer (check out how to make one of your own here) was berry picking, and recently I was able to make it up to one of my favorite local farms for strawberry picking. Alstede Farms was featured last summer on the blog when I went blueberry picking. This year I decided to try it a little earlier and see how the strawberry picking was, and I was not disappointed.
Walking around the farm premises, there was not only strawberries, but raspberries, blueberries, and a variety of vegetables that were open for picking. Even so, the only option with ripe fruit was strawberries. It was a quiet day and being on the farm was very peaceful when I am used to the busy noise in the town I live in.
It was very easy to find some great looking strawberries, and I easily filled a container within 10 minutes of picking around. At home, pick your own fruit is great in making pies, adding to yogurts and salads, or just eating plain!
Here is the outfit that I wore strawberry picking. I wore layers because it was a slightly chilly day for summer, and I chose a long skirt in order to keep my legs from brushing against spiky plants or getting bit by bugs. Also I really liked how the red of the skirt reminded me of strawberries. Here is where everything is from:

After picking I made my way back up to the main farmhouse, and got some homemade strawberry ice cream and a blackberry pie to go. The whole trip took maybe 4 hours out of my day, and was very easy to budget into my schedule. Plus, I ended up with some great memories and some great strawberries. I highly recommend checking out your local farm for an easy, fun, family friendly day.
