Happy Sunday! With fall weather arriving, my favorite season of layering has finally begun. The 80's and early 90's inspiration has been taking over clothing stores over the past couple years, and it is often hard to pick between a current day look, and a retro one. With layering, I've been trying to combine these two looks into a cohesive, warm, fall outfit.
The base of my outfit were these paint splattered girlfriend jeans. From there, I decided I wanted to go with a comfortable, baggy look, and paired it with a big pink button up and a matching pink cardigan. I added a pop with the gold shoes to add another pump of retro. Another option would to be to pick a more neutral color for the top and shoes, and then add a pop of color in the socks = which would peek out at the ankle. Here is where everything is from:
Top: Forever 21
Cardigan: Cotton Emporium (bought at a thrift store)
Bottom: Hollister (bought at Marshalls)
Here is a close up of the top where you can also see the chokers I added to match the pop in the shoes, and add to the overall color theme of the look. The outfit can easily be worn without the cardigan as the day goes on and it gets warmer, as the interesting shape of the shirt and pop in necklace and shoes keep the look interesting. It is also incredibly comfortable; I have been focusing my closet away from skinny jeans and more towards looser fit because they can be styled just as easily, and are very comfortable.
I hope that this brought some inspiration to layering your closet in fall with the old and the new. Although the styles may seem completely different, combining old looks with modern color themes, or adding pops of retro into modern looks can help build a style around your closet. If you create an outfit using this post as inspiration, post it on social media and tag me! I'd love to see what you come up with. Have an amazing week.
